ARP nurses uniform

1939 - 1945

ARP (Air Raid Precautions) nurse’s uniform consisting of a blue, A-line dress with a square collar. A fabric badge is sewn centrally to the chest with the letters ‘ARP’ embroidered in red. A white cotton apron completes the uniform.

This dress belonged to ARP nurse Enid Adshead. Enid administered first aid during the blitz at St. George’s Church on Buxton Road, Stockport. In the day time she worked at the munitions factory.

Enid was just one of many unsung local heroes whose tireless work, day and night, was crucial to Britain’s war effort.
