Fred Taylor Shell Collection
1901 - 1918
A large collection of shells from freshwater, marine and land environments collected by Fred Taylor of Oldham.
Some are British, discovered in areas such as Oldham, Southport and Skegness. Exotic specimens have been found in South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
Fred Taylor (1871 – 1949) was a founding member of Oldham Microscopical and Natural History Society. He published several articles including – ‘The Land and Freshwater Mollusca of the District between Ashton-under-Lyne and Oldham’ 1897.
The mollusc species Paludestrina taylori E. A. Smith was named after him.
