German Knife and scabbard
1916 - 1918
This knife would have been intended for close quarter fighting, more reminiscent of earlier, less industrialised types of warfare. It has a double-edged blade and the belt loop attached to the scabbard is made of woven paper which was a substitute for leather, a commodity that was in short supply in WW1 Germany.
