‘Have-A-Go’ – The Wilfred Pickles Radio Party Game
‘Have-A-Go’ was a hugely popular radio quiz program hosted by the BBCs North Region presenter, Wilfred Pickles. Pickles was born in Halifax, Yorkshire and moved to live in Southport, Lancashire. During the Second World War the BBC chose him as the first radio news presenter to speak in a regional accent instead of the usual ‘received pronunciation’, in the hope it would make it more difficult for the Nazis to impersonate BBC broadcasters. The game linked to questions on the show, but with so few questions the replay ability is quite low. Although the game does say it contains “hints by Wilfred Pickles himself on how to get the maximum fun at your party”.
