Over 2,000 fossils, rocks and minerals collected by James Nield of Oldham. This collection has had significant additions of local fossils made by members of the Oldham Geological Society. 

Carboniferous fossils from the Oldham area and the rest of the UK. British rocks and minerals. Passed to Oldham Museum by Oldham Geological Society.

James Nield was a significant Oldham geologist and was the prime mover in flagging up the importance of the Fossil Forest discovered at Oldham Edge in 1879. Nield also was responsible for installing a huge glacial erratic as a feature in Alexandra Park in Oldham.

There is a good representation of fossil vertebrates.The collection also contains a quantity of non-marine bivalves from the Site of Special Scientific Interest at Glodwick Lows.
