Locomotive Nameplate

1948

This is a brass nameplate inscribed ‘City of Salford’.

The nameplate is from the Princess Coronation class No 46257 ‘City of Salford’ steam locomotive which was made in Crewe in 1948.

Designed by William Stanier and modified by George Ivatt this was the last locomotive of the class to be built.  It entered service just after the nationalisation of British Railways in 1948.
