World War One death plaque, presented to the family of Richard James Aspin from Bury.
Richard Aspin was a private in the Prince of Wales’s Volunteers (82nd Regiment of Foot). He was killed in action on 15 July 1916 in Flanders, on the 15th day of the battle of the Somme. There is no known grave for him, however his name does appear on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme in Picardy in Northern France.
