Frederick Buck (attributed)
early 19th Century
This is a miniature portrait of an unknown officer of the 63rd Manchester Regiment, made in the late 1700s or early 1800s.
It is believed an artist called Frederick Buck made this painting (1771-1840). Frederick was an Irish artist who was born in Cork and also worked in Dublin. It has been said that he kept a supply of miniatures, especially of soldiers, completed apart from the head and when their Regiment was due to sail, he finished the painting. This way he was able to complete and sell a lot of paintings very quickly.
