Olympic Cycling Helmet

circa 1952

Padded leather track cyclist’s crash helmet.

Stockport track cyclist Alan Newton wore this helmet when competing in the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. Alan rode the final lap in the 4000m team pursuit and brought home a bronze medal to Great Britain

Made from hand stitched sections of padded leather it is barely recognisable to the aerodynamic helmets worn by track cyclists today.
