Portrait Head, Raimi
‘Portrait Head, Raimi’ depicts the artist and writer Raimi Gbadamosi. It is a sculpted head made of cast iron with rust patination
Taslim Martin worked as a carpenter before returning to college to study ceramics, graduating from Cardiff Institute of Higher Education in 1995 and going on to the Royal College of Art.
Martin’s career as a carpenter feeds into his art; he is preoccupied with materials and the making process. He chooses not to adhere to traditional notions of a hierarchy of materials, believing that there is no reason why craft skills should not be employed across a range of different materials and processes, from plaster and wood to cast iron. Often his work develops through playing with materials and experimentation with new processes.
