Stovepipe Top Hat
Plush silk top hat made by J Woolfendens and Company of Denton to celebrate their centenary in 1930. Its crown sits at a massive 45cms high. It is known as a ‘stovepipe’ due to its resemblance to the pipe of an old stove.
Many local companies made commemorative or novelty examples of their standard hats to promote and advertise their work. This is a striking example of an over-sized topper and is the tallest in the museum collection.
