Self-heating cans were a revolutionary invention of the Second World War. Invented by Heinz and ICI, the cans allowed troops hot food in all conditions without the need to light fires, which could reveal their location to the enemy. The cans were reputedly invented for the D-Day landings.
Contains cordite with a fuse which could be lit to heat the contents of the can.
