Annie Louisa Swynnerton

Annie Swynnerton was born in Salford and became the first woman to be elected as an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1922. She was a believer in equality for women in art and along with her fellow artist Isabel Dacre formed the Manchester Society of Woman Painters.
Annie Swynnerton painted many leading women including Florence Nightingale and suffragette Millicent Garrett Fawcett.
