TV Licence

1970

When television broadcasts in the UK were resumed after the Second World War, it was decided to introduce a television licence fee to finance the service. The licence covered the monochrome-only single-channel BBC and cost £2. After the BBC started regular transmissions in colour from 1967, a ‘colour supplement’ was added to the existing licence fee.
