Wedgwood ceramic vase – Wedgwood Jasper ware and cover, of ovoid shape with twin loop handles and a square base, applied in white with ‘The Dancing Hours’ pattern of classical maidens holding hands within borders of leaves and motifs against a black ground. One of a pair.

The vase is part of a cabinet of ceramic art that was presented to John Bright by admirers in the Staffordshire Potteries. The inscription on the cabinet reads ‘To the Right Hon John Bright M.P., whose foresight, eloquence and faithful character have greatly contributed to this country’s prosperity these specimens of ceramic art are presented by admirers in the Staffordshire Potteries’

Stamped in one of the drawers of the cabinet is the makers name ‘R. A. Brangan’. There is also a paper label inside the drawer that states ‘Richard Alfred Brangan mnfr carved and decorative furniture 4 Faley Street, Portland Road, London.’
