‘Wings for Victory’ Badge
Foil and paper badge for the Stockport ‘Wings for Victory’ campaign.
There were many savings groups set up in Stockport during WWII which encouraged public contributions to the war effort. People could join savings groups organised by local businesses, schools, social clubs and even streets.
This badge was created for the ‘Stockport Wings for Victory’ campaign. The badge celebrates the National Savings Movement which raised money for more bomber planes.
The Stockport Express newspaper reported that Stockport raised over 1 million pounds as part of this national bomber campaign. Saving targets were set for each town and Stockport regularly exceeded them.
